I've been blogging about running and products since October of last year. While I don't consider myself a veteran blogger by any means, I have noticed a few trends in the blogging world. Most of which I'm guilty of as well!
Here are a few of my favorites!
1. Whine Fest. This would be better if it was WINE fest but it's sadly the other kind. For run bloggers, we usually whine about how we had a crappy run, or how we had to drop out of a race, or how we've grained weight while training. Those all suck and we all whine about it, including myself. Thanks for reading!
2. Bad Advice. Should you run a half marathon the morning after a long night of binge drinking and tequila shots? Sure! Go right ahead. Your body will thank you for it! Not! We are not all 21 year old frat boys who can pull this off. I know I can't. As a blogger, you have to be very careful about the advice you put out there for your audience to read. That is why on my blog I have the disclaimer that I'm a Ginger, not a Doctor.
I'm happy to share information with you that has worked for me if you ask, but please know it is nothing more than two runners talking shop and you should ultimately listen to your gut or your Doctor.
3. Giveaways! This is a fun one to do. I just did one last week that I really enjoyed. Why do we do it? We want more readers! Or we want more people to like our Facebook Page, or we want more Twitter followers. You get the idea. Also, people like free stuff! What is better than winning free stuff? Nothing. Well, maybe PRing at a race. Maybe...
4. Typos. Eh, what can I say?T They happen. Spell check and Auto-correct have become the death of the average human's capability to spell on their own. I'm definitely guilty of this and give everyone full permission to point out my spelling errors. Just be nice about it!
5. TMI - Too Much Information. Have you ever been reading a blog and the blogger just starts spilling their drama or their horrifying bathroom mishaps? TMI People! I don't want to read about it unless it is humorous, witty, helpful, or inspiring! Keep the TMI posts to yourself. Moving on!
6. Photos, Photos, Photos! I'm SUPER guilty of this one. What? You don't want to see the 473 selfies I took after my last race? Weird!
I even have a full page on my blog dedicated to my race photos. I'm even worse at collecting photos on my iPhone. I recently deleted over 500 and still have over 3100 photos. Is there if camera phone anonymous I can join?
7. Overly Dramatic Blogger. Injuries happen, scheduling conflicts happen, bad weather happens. For one reason or another we've all had to pull out of a race or take some time off from running or our other favorite hobbies. But we don't have to be super dramatic about it! No, your life is not over because you can't run for a week. In fact, if you are dealing with an injury, it is probably best that you take off as much time as your body tells you that you need to get better so that way you don't end up doing more damage to yourself. No, you won't go crazy. I promise. Yes, there will be other races you can run after you had to pull out of the last one. Just keep calm and carry on.
