It's 10 days before Christmas and here at the RunGingerRunBlog house, we finally got into the Christmas spirit enough to put up our Christmas tree. Well sort of. We like to change up the theme of our Christmas tree each year instead of having the same one over and over. We've had all clear glass themed ornaments, we've had blue and silver ornaments, we've had multicolored themed ornaments, red and silver themed ornaments, a candy themed tree and last year we even had a Halloween themed Christmas tree. (We really really really like Halloween around here.) But this year may be my favorite theme of all.

Here's what we did...

The Garland

For the garland, we used the left over safety pins and strung together a bunch of our race bibs that we've both been collecting over the last 2 years. It was surprisingly easy and worked pretty well! This helps so that the tree doesn't look so empty.

The "Ornaments"

We actually thought about having a running themed Christmas tree last year but we didn't think we would have enough medals. This is a picture of most of the medals that we earned in 2013.

(The Lucky Little Rock Marathon Medal didn't make it to the tree because it was way to heavy!)

The Tree Topper

The Tree Topper is actually a Tulsa Golden Driller Piggy bank. The Hubbo got that as an age group award when he placed third in his age group at the Corn Dog Classic 5K this fall.

The Golden Driller must have gotten drunk off some eggnog or something because he fell off the tree a few times, but I think he's learned his lesson now!

The Tree Skirt

You can't have a running themed Christmas tree without a running themed "skirt" and of course your running shirts need to be represented in this ordeal so...problem solved!

                                      Merry Christmas!

P.S. Today while we were decorating the tree I played my Christmas song playlist to help us stay festive and in the Christmas spirit. The playlist isn't very long so it inspired me to take a poll on Twitter and Facebook to see what everyone's favorite Christmas song was.
Feel free to leave a comment and tell me what your favorite Christmas song is too!
Here are the results of the Twitter and Facebook Poll:
Twitter Says...
  • White Christmas - Michael Buble
  • Mary, Did You Know?
  • Santa Claus is Comin' To Town - Bruce Springsteen
  • Grown Up Christmas List
  • Baby It's Cold Outside
  • O Holy Night - Josh Groban
  • Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays - N'Sync
  • Blue Christmas - Elvis
  • Silent Night
  • God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
Facebook Says...
  • Drummer Boy - Josh Groban
  • Silent Night
  • Nothing But A Child
  • O Come Emanuel
  • O Holy Night
  • All I Want for Christmas Is You
  • Rocking Around the Christmas Tree
  • I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas
  • Silver Bells

  • Do You Hear What I Hear?
  • Carol of the Bells
  • Up on the House Top
  • Feliz Navidad
It is that time of year again. Time when your family and friends have been bugging you about what you want for Christmas and time is running out. I always struggle with this myself. I never know what I want, what I should tell people and I never know what to get people either.

I'm not great at surprising my friends with gifts, I usually just buy them exactly what they told me via text message they wanted but I do love to give gifts! So I got inspired to make a list, but I didn't check it twice, of gifts that are good for your running buddies.

Under The Tree Gifts

  • GPS Watch - Prices can range from low to high-end.
  •  iPod Shuffle
  • Ear buds
  • iTunes Gift Card - runners love music!
  • Tech Shirts - Easy to buy if you know the size and you can never have too many
  • Money for race entry fees. Those add up quickly over the year!
  • Sweaty Bands
  • Shoes - May be harder to purchase but if they are the type of runner that purchases the same shoe time after time, maybe you can do a little spy work and figure it out. Otherwise maybe just a gift card to their favorite running store for a new pair.
  • Running Buff - Doubles as a Ninja costume :)
  • Running Gloves - Either a good pair or a few really cheap throw away pairs

Stocking Stuffer Gifts

Running socks - No cotton!
Blinky light - The gift of safety!
Nutrition - GU or Stingers
Running Sticker - 13.1, 26.2, 5K, 10K, 15K
Running Magnet
Body Glide - Not glamorous but pretty useful
Reusable running water bottle

I hope this helps some of my running buddies with their holiday shopping or gift giving. Let me know what is on your wish list!
For me - I hoping Santa brings me an iPod Shuffle!
