Every Saturday morning, the Hubbo and I get up freakishly early for our long training run with our group. We are currently training for the Honolulu Marathon in December so I guess it's all worth it. Just kidding! It totally is!  This weekend on my long run I was thinking about my morning routine and realized I've never blogged about it. So here we are. Here's my rundown (ha!) of my Friday/Saturday routine for our long training run.

Friday Night

Picture
My long run preparation really starts on Friday night. As soon as I get home from work I start a load of laundry (boring!) of all our running gear we might want to wear the next day.
Then I start laying out all of the gear that doesn't need to be washed into a pile so it will all be in one place and easy to find. You know, because at 4:45 in the morning you resemble drunken zombie more-so than peppy runner!

Here's a run down of everything I do Friday night:
Lay out the right pair of running shoes.
Put my Garmin on the charger. If you didn't record your run with your Garmin, it doesn't count!
Find my running belt because I clearly haven't seen it in a week and there is no telling where that thing ended up. Behind the TV? Oh perfect place for it!
Stuff  said running belt with my fuel, ENERGYbits, and my car key.
Once the load of laundry is done, get all running clothes out of the dryer, throw them into a pile on the floor next to my shoes. (So adult of me, I know!)
Spend 10 minutes trying to find a pair of matching running socks because the dryer likes to play tricks on you and they are never easy to find.
Foam roll while checking the Social Medias.
Eat dinner and try to be in bed by 10:00.
10:30 tell Hubbo we should go to bed.
11:00 finally in bed trying to sleep.

Saturday Morning

Picture
4:45 AM - Alarm Goes Off. Hit Snooze.
5:00 AM - Force Myself Out of Bed.
5:01 AM - Zombie-like Stagger to Kitchen
Make oatmeal. While oatmeal is cooking, eat a banana.
5:07 Bathroom - Brush Teeth and put my hair up.
5:12 Eat cooled off oatmeal and post to twitter it's time for a training run.
5:15 - While eating oatmeal, tape feet, get dressed and put on shoes. (Remember this step. It's important for later.)
5:30 - Wonder why it took you so long to get dressed and start to hurry with the rest of the routine.
5:31 - Foam Roll legs, calf muscles, and trigger point roll feet.
5:45 - Put shoes back on because I am dumb in the morning and put them on before I rolled my feet out.
5:50 - Grab all my gear, water, and take my first serving of ENERGYbits, and I get in the car.
5:50 - 6:00 The Hubbo drives to the store where we meet up with our group and I try to stay awake.
6:00 - 6:15 Time for one more quick bathroom break, talk to half asleep runners, and try not to fall asleep myself.
6:15 - Run! Also - promise myself that as soon as I get home, I'll take a nap.
Later that day- No naps taken.

Leave a Comment! What's your routine like? How early do you get up  before your run?

Bahah! You forgot during the "trying to fall asleep" that you'll roll around for about an hour and a half going "I NEED TO BE SLEEPING."

My nighttime routine is pretty simple. I keep all my running gear (fuel belt, bottles, iPhone holder, Garmin + charger, etc. in a bin by the front door. Waking up is usually the most painful part. I meet my running group at 6:30, so I can get away with sleeping till 5:30 or so since I live 5 minutes away from the store we meet at.

Ah! How could i forget that! That's the most annoying part! lol
We have a bin by the door too, but everything seems to always fall to the very bottom of it. Every. Single. Time.

You know, as I read this post sitting at the airport in Las Vegas, you remind me with your "charging the Garmin" comment that there's a very good chance I left mine back at the hotel. To late though. My bag is checked in. I'll let you know if it made home. Lol

Friday night
Have a couple of beers and eat crap food.
Try to sleep at 10pm. Roll on bed for 30 min. Finaly sleep at 10:30pm

During the night
Get weaken up at least 3 times by the cats to feed them.

Saturday morning
Alarm goes on at 6:30-7:00 depending on mileage planned for the day.
Fall of bed and crawl my way to the kitchen.
Start preping egg white omelet + protein shake with coconut water.
Turn off the stove and run to the bathroom.
15min later re start to prep food.
Eat everything while looking at social medias.
Fill water bottles put on clothes and drive to long run starting point still half awake.
Run for 2km still half awake. Wake up fully after almost tripping over some irregularities on the ground.

Hahaha - Love this 'list' of your Friday night/Saturday morning routine, along with those memes. So true! I roll around attempting to sleep early, but it never goes well. I have the hardest time waking up in the mornings!

Me too! I'm not a morning person. I'm definitely more of a night owl so going to bed early on a Friday night just seems so wrong! LOL

My routine is not much different than yours, except for eating different things. One question though, i see you tape your feet. What is the purpose of that?

Good question! I have plantar fas in both of my feet and I tape my arches for just a little added support. Gets me through the really long training runs.

It's so hard! We are total night owls. The only day we run in the mornings is on Saturday with our group. Makes for a boring Friday night. Lol
